Social Builders Building Blocks Group

The Social Builders Lego Group is an evidence-based program hosted by an Occupational Therapist. The program offers a safe environment for children aged 8 to 16 to develop their social skills using Lego® bricks within a peer environment. Across 10 one-hour groups consisting of just three participants, children can increase their confidence and engagement across teamwork, problem solving and verbal communication.

This group is best suited for clients who are wanting to develop social skills in a therapist supported environment with peers. It can complement existing Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology services as well as clients who no longer require intensive 1:1 support.

Note that this group may not be suitable for every client aiming to improve their social skills. The dynamics of group play are an important role in producing successful outcomes. Our Support Centre can discuss whether or not this group is appropriate and an intake session with the group facilitator is required to assess suitability.

Outcomes

  • Improved social skills including verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Development of problem solving skills
  • Gain confidence interacting with peers of a similar age
  • Understand group dynamics
