Online gaming can provide an enjoyable past time for our loved ones that we care for, but there are many negative gaming environments that can hurt or upset our loved ones.

Do you want to learn how to support the person you are caring for against all the dangers lurking in the online gaming space?

This specifically created course, is designed to teach carers the skills to keep their loved ones safe in a space many of them spend their time in.

WEEK 1 – Online gaming and issues relating to the use of online platforms.

What are the issues affecting online users. This workshop will cover simple tips on how to stay safe when using online apps.

Topics covered include:

  • Cyber safety
  • Bullying or negative online behaviour
  • How to identify scams and phishing attempts
  • Simple tips to staying safe
  • Reporting scams and bullying

WEEK 2: The dangers of online gaming and gambling, and how to identify a potential problem.

As carers often find themselves isolated and in need to do something to relax and keep their minds off the stress of caring for a loved one, it can be quite easy to fall into the trap of using online games and social media as an escape from reality.

Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to Internet gaming disorder
  • The statistics
  • Addiction – What are the signs?
  • Prevention measures
  • Health impact
  • Practical strategies

WEEK 3 – Spot the scam.

This session will focus on current scams which make older people more vulnerable to fall prey to an online hoax.

Topics covered include:

  • Different types of scams
  • What to do if you have been scammed
  • How to protect yourself and your family from scams
