Happy Aged Care Employee Day (7 August)! This is a time to celebrate the more than 370,000 residential care, home care and retirement living staff who support over 1.5 million older people across Australia.

The Benevolent Society’s Aged Care Services team is committed to helping people stay independent and in their home for longer. We help people navigate the services and government funding available, so they can make informed choices about what is best for them and their family.

Meet Cathie, one of our hardworking Home Support Team Members

Cathie has been working with The Benevolent Society for more than a decade. In her role as a Home Support Team Member, she provides support to older clients living in the community.

“I chose this career path because I wanted to be able to go out each day and make a big difference by assisting our clients to stay living at home independently for longer and ensure they’re living their best life,” she says.

For Cathie, it’s a tremendously rewarding vocation, particularly working with clients with dementia.

"I have had the pleasure of working with a family for 10 years,” she says. “Firstly, I was assisting the husband to take care of his wife with dementia and now I’m assisting him to stay at home. It’s very satisfying [being able to help] and I’ve made lots of good memories.”

“Working at The Benevolent Society, I have always felt valued for the work I do each day. It’s nice to have this day recognise the hard work we do.”
