Foster Care Recruitment

Safe environments for children in need

Foster care is the care of a child or young person who is not able to live with their own family.  For a night or longer term, foster care provides welcoming, loving and safe home environments which always have the best interests of the child at heart.

People usually become foster carers because they have a love of children and believe they can make a difference by providing a nurturing and supportive home.

Could you be a foster carer?

We're always looking for foster carers, from all walks of life.

The background of children and young people who need foster care is diverse, so we welcome diversity in their carers.
Foster carers can be single, married, in same-sex or de facto relationships, male or female. You may have children living at home, adult children, or no children.

Foster carers must complete ongoing training, undergo a personal assessment process and develop an understanding of the experiences of children and young people prior to coming into care.

What do children need from foster carers?

Children and young people need foster carers to:

  • listen to them
  • be patient, tolerant and adaptable
  • show them genuine affection and kindness
  • support them to make decisions about their own life
  • help them to go to school, get involved in community activities and have fun
  • understand and support their family, community and cultural connections
  • make them feel at home and part of their foster family
