The Benevolent Society has supported those impacted by adoption for over three decades.

The Post Adoption Resource Centre (PARC) in NSW has been operating since 1991. Based on its success, Post Adoption Support Queensland (PASQ) was founded in 2009 to support Queenslanders affected by adoption separation, trauma and loss.

With a team of social workers, qualified counsellors, and advanced, the PASQ supports Queenslanders who are adopted, as well as parents, siblings, partners and others who have been separated from family or impacted by adoption.

A key part of PASQ’s work is connecting with local communities to raise awareness of the support available. The team also regularly hosts meetings for locals separated from family through adoption to connect, access support and be heard.

Raising awareness

On Tuesday 9 June, the PASQ team will host a morning tea and information session at Benevolent's Gordonvale Early Years Centre to discuss the support it offers.

Australians impacted by adoption grapple with this experience throughout their lives.

“Events like this morning tea are helpful to show people there are services available to help them,” said Sabrina Pezzuto, Team Leader at Benevolent’s PASQ team.

“We’re looking forward to meeting with everyone in Gordonvale to share more on how our team can support those who have been affected by adoption.”

Support through the PASQ

PASQ provides counselling to address grief, loss, identity, relationships and the impacts of trauma for individuals, couples and families.

The service also assists those looking to access records and trace family, as well as intermediary support with a third-party professional to help with search and reunion, including approaching birth relatives.

“Our team is dedicated to supporting anyone impacted by adoption. Whether it’s someone who is adopted, someone who has been separated from their child through adoption, or adoptive parents and extended family who may be impacted by adoption in some way, there are support options for all who need it through the PASQ,” added Sabrina.
