Government subsidised programs

Funding community services

Government subsidised programs, or 'block' funding, is a traditional funding model. Many Child & Family Community Services programs are funded in this way, while in Disability Support Services and Ageing Support Services, there’s a shift to individual funding to provide more choice and flexibility.

Block funding and individual funding

Government 'block' funding is the traditional funding model where the government provides grants to approved providers to deliver community service programs.

The providers must meet a range of conditions and funding is usually linked to their client numbers and services delivered.

Many areas are now shifting to individual funding models to provide more choice and flexibility. This means money is given directly to people who are eligible, and they choose their own service providers.

Examples of individual funding

Receiving support through the NDIS and My Aged Care are examples of individual funding models.
