The Benevolent Society is set to deliver the highly successful Resilient Families Program in South Australia from July 2021.

Funded by the  South Australian and Commonwealth Governments using a pay by results model, Resilient Families will provide intensive support and evidence-based therapeutic interventions to create positive home environments for up to 300 vulnerable families over the next five and a half years.

The Benevolent Society will work with individual families in their own homes to focus on their particular safety concerns and risk factors, including home visits, crisis intervention, skills development, and access to a 24/7 on-call service. The program will be available across South Australia’s southern metropolitan areas through to the Murray Bridge area.

“We look forward to extending on our more than 200-year legacy of supporting Australian children and families by delivering Resilient Families in South Australia for the very first time,” said Jo Toohey, CEO, The Benevolent Society.

“Our experienced and passionate team of specialists is committed to working with families to create positive home environments and prevent children from entering out-of-home care.”

The new program in South Australia is based on a similar model that was used for The Benevolent Society’s Social Benefit Bond (SBB), which funded Resilient Families as a pilot program in NSW over a five-year trial period and proved to be hugely successful.

When the five-year Bond matured, the NSW program recorded an 86% preservation rate of keeping children safe with their families and 32% fewer entries into Out of Home Care (OOHC) in comparison to the control group. Resilient Families in NSW continues to perform strongly for families, tracking at a 91% preservation rate in 2019-2020 and reporting a 39% reduction in parental mental health concerns and a 31% increase in wellbeing.

“This is another wonderful opportunity for us to be able to assist in ensuring that all children and families are given the opportunity to be able to live their best lives in safer and secure environments and we are very honoured to be a part of this great initiative,” said Ms Toohey.
