The Benevolent Society has recently expanded its Broken Hill team to enhance its disability support services for people in the area.

The office recently welcomed four new people including Alice Thompson as the Disability Services Team Leader for Broken Hill. With extensive experience working in youth and community care services, she’s looking forward to building relationships with local stakeholders and working together to benefit the local community.

“We’re thrilled our Broken Hill team is expanding,” Alice says. “I’m looking forward to supporting our wonderful team as they continue to provide the best possible services for the people of Broken Hill."

“If anyone in the community is requiring disability support services, such as occupational therapy, behaviour support, psychology or NDIS Support Coordination, The Benevolent Society can help.”

Occupational Therapist (OT), Peter Clottu, has also come on board. He has more than four decades of experience within many different services and locations across Australia.

Peter, who has lived in Broken Hill for seven years, has extensive experience working across many specialties including mental health and intellectual disability.
Expanding the team in Broken Hill will help meet the demand for disability support services in the area.

“During my seven years in Broken Hill, there has been a steady increase in demand for occupational therapy services across a spectrum of specialties, particularly regarding NDIS,” Peter says. “In many cases there are long wait times and an increase in service provision by FIFO (Fly-In Fly Out) that does not satisfy demand."

“This is not exclusive to OT as there is also a large demand for medical and other allied health services.”

Two experienced Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioners, Tanya Dowdy and Hayley Burzacott, have also joined the team on a regular Fly-In Fly-Out basis.

“I am a born and bred country girl and understand the difficulties people face when trying to engage with services outside of the big city,” Tanya says.

The three new members will work alongside the existing Broken Hill team, which includes Client Support Partner Shania McIntosh.
In addition, the team is looking to recruit a Behaviour Support Practitioner, Graduate Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. Visit our careers page for current opportunities.

The Benevolent Society office is located at Unit 2, 23 Sulphide Street, Broken Hill NSW 2880.
