How Jacqui helps you stay in your home longer

After a career in publishing, Jacqui Long was looking for a new challenge. And 15 years ago she found it when she became a Home Support Partner for The Benevolent Society’s Home Care program.

“When I had children, I needed more flexible work. I came to work for The Benevolent Society and I’ve even managed to upgrade my qualifications with a Diploma in Aged Care.”

Helping you to stay in your home longer

The Benevolent Society’s Home Support Partners support older people to stay in their own homes. The Home Care system can be quite complex to navigate, so Home Support Partners like Jacqui are on hand to help.

“As a Home Care Support Partner, I help manage client budgets for Home Care,” she says.

“We also work together with clients and their families to set and achieve goals for the kind of life our clients want, assess their needs and coordinate support services.”

No two days are the same in this kind of work

“Each day presents new challenges,” says Jacqui.

“There is a huge variety of tasks, from enquiries from new and prospective clients, to planning and arranging services, liaising with carers, service providers and family members.”

“I love that this job gives me the opportunity to help people – I get a lot of satisfaction from assisting my clients to resolve their challenges and to live independent, fulfilled lives.”

Sharing the everyday and special occasions

Jacqui shares in the lives of her clients, by keeping in contact and helping them celebrate milestones.

“I love getting to be a part of special occasions – celebrating the 100th birthday of a client was really meaningful,” says Jacqui.

“Working in this job gives me an opportunity to experience the resilience and breadth of experience of older people.”
