Connecting Carers with Support

Story contributed by: Siavash Manouchehpour, Manager of the National Support Centre

The Benevolent Society’s new Carer Gateway service (an Australian Government initiative) launched in April 2020 and has already registered over 500 carers in NSW’s Metropolitan Sydney*.

Part of our National Support Centre, our Carer Gateway team support unpaid carers of older Australians, people with chronic illness, disability or people living with mental illness. The team connects carers to services that can support them in their caring role and provides them information and advice.

Siavash Manouchehrpour, Manager of the National Support Centre said: “Carer Gateway is a first point of contact for carers seeking support – our team has helped with more than 1000 enquiries from carers in just over two months.”

“We’re here to make them feel valued and heard, identify their needs, explore appropriate service options and connect them to our Carer Respite team. The team is professional, understanding and patiently listen to carers’ experiences and respond to their needs.”

A virtual and energetic bunch

“The team are full of energy, mature and maintain a professional attitude when it comes to work and helping our clients,” expressed Siavash. The Carer Gateway team are excited to be part of the new Carer Gateway services and continue helping new communities of carers live their best lives.
