Chief Executive Officer, Jo Toohey, has announced that she will step down from the role she has held for 7 years, at the end of June this year.
Joining The Benevolent Society in 2013, Jo was appointed Acting CEO in 2014 before being confirmed in the role in April 2015. In her seven years as CEO, Jo has led The Benevolent Society through considerable transformation and growth, all while ensuring we stayed true to our purpose.
Jo understands the true value of working with people, for people and has maintained strong connections with everyone she works with, to ensure our purpose and values are at the forefront of everything we do.
‘Whilst it has been a very difficult decision to make, I know that the timing is right. As the organisation prepares to launch the new strategy we have just finalised, it’s a great time for some new to take the organisation forward to its next phase’, Jo said.
‘I have had the privilege to work at The Benevolent Society with its extraordinary history, in partnership with others who hold the same strong belief in social justice, and with our people who do amazing work every day. I am looking forward to having a break, but not stopping. The reforms and changes that are continuing to transform all areas of our sector, will present exciting opportunities that I look forward to being part of.’
The Benevolent Society’s chair, Tim Beresford paid tribute to Jo’s contribution, saying ‘The Board is grateful for Jo’s leadership and experience, as she has guided the organisation along its path to becoming the contemporary, innovative and for-purpose organisation that it is today. She has a deeply held belief that all Australians should have the opportunity to live their best life, and we look forward to seeing the impact she will continue to have.’
‘I would like to thank Tim Beresford, Chair, and the Board of Directors for their support over the years, and most importantly all the staff and volunteers who bring The Benevolent Society’s purpose to life every day’, Jo said.
Jo will continue to work with the Board and Executive Leadership Team whilst the search for a new CEO will commence immediately.
