Rebecca Vassarotti

Acting Executive Director, Future Directions

Rebecca Vassarotti joined The Benevolent Society in January 2025, and is the Acting Executive Director for Future Directions.

She leads the organisation in Strategy, Policy, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Outcomes and Innovation.  

Rebecca brings a wealth of leadership experience in the community, social welfare and advocacy sectors.

She served as Minister for Environment and Heritage, Minister for Homelessness and Housing Services, and Minister for Sustainable Building and Construction. 

She previously held the positions of Executive Director at YWCA Canberra, Deputy CEO of the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS), Executive Director of the International Network on Hepatitis and Substance Use.  

She also served as a community member on the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal, working in the areas of mental health, guardianship and energy and water hardship. 

Rebecca has also sat on numerous community sector boards, including ACOSS, ACTCOSS and Community Housing Canberra.
